Futures are recruiting for an outstanding Careers Coach to join our established team to mentor and progress unemployed young people aged 15-25 with Special Educational Needs and/or Disability (SEND) into sustained opportunities.
Applicants will need to have experience of engaging and supporting young people who have faced multiple barriers. Some experience of progressing people into Employment Education and Training (EET) is desirable but not essential. The role combines careers guidance with the broader Preparation for Adulthood agenda including coaching of life skills and developing independence and aims to best equip our young people for success in their adult life.Applicants need to demonstrate a strong desire and commitment to help SEND young people (including those with behavioural and emotional needs) to navigate challenges and overcome barriers to achieve their goals. You will need to be resilient and proactive to secure engagement.
The role works to reduce NEET and sustain involvement in EET whilst growing work readiness with a cohort up to age 25 who were "Special Educational Needs (SEN) Support" Level at school. This will be working in an intense, high support approach, addressing bespoke holistic needs in line with the Preparation for Adulthood agenda. You will see your caseload regularly and work with them over a long period of time to improve their generally employability, continuing to support them for at least 6 months after they enter into a successful EET opportunity. You will be proactive in trying to source experiences and opportunities (voluntary and/or paid) with employers to support skill development in real life working environments. Some knowledge of systemic instruction would be useful. You will undertake regular assessments with the young people to inform plans for the work you need to do to best support them and this will involve working to improve soft outcomes such as, improving self-esteem, confidence, budgeting, looking at clothing for work, travel training, interview skills, CV preparation, careers guidance. Experience of working with Special Education Needs and Disability (SEND) young people and knowledge of the Preparation for Adulthood Framework would be an advantage.
