Job purpose:

To work in a supported learning environment to develop the technical skills and knowledge which will assist you to acquire transferable skills to enable you to secure future employment.

Under the supervision of experienced staff, provide administrative, clerical or business support to an area of the Council.

 

Principal duties and responsibilities:

  1. As directed, undertake a work programme to develop practical skills and knowledge of administrative, customer service and/or business support duties including:
  • Undertaking basic office duties such as message taking, processing mail, filing, photocopying, room booking
  • Dealing with basic written and verbal enquiries and requests in an effective and courteous manner
  • Using standard and service-specific software packages and systems to produce documents, update and maintain records, monitor contacts etc.
  • Supporting the general work of the area e.g. by assisting with events, greeting and collecting visitors, setting up rooms
  • Completing service specific tasks in line with team processes and procedures
  1. To develop the general skills, attributes and behaviours required to make you “work ready” and to prepare you for a role in your chosen area of work (e.g. communication, organisation and time management skills)
  2. To take part in meetings, supervision, training and other events to assist with your development, as requested by your manager
  3. To undertake any other duties in line with your grade and capabilities, as required.

Basic literacy and ability to do simple calculations

Able to use MS Office software packages to carry out basic tasks

Able to use office/team systems and equipment

Attention to detail

 

Work to promote mutual respect and good relations:

A basic understanding of what Equality and Diversity means and how to act when at work when dealing with different needs of different customers.

Ability to adhere to the Council’s Equality and Diversity policy

 

Work Related Circumstances/Special Requirements of the post:

Eligibility to the Kickstart scheme is open to Nottingham City residents only

Willingness to comply with the City Council’s non-smoking policy

Willing to undertake a DBS check, if required
