Kickstart vacancies are available to people age 16-24 who are in receipt of Universal Credit.

We are seeking a Trainee Animator to help us tell compelling stories about our company, services, and products for our external communications. They will collaborate with our in-house copywriter, developing their visual storytelling skills through learning how to take a project from a written concept, to style-frames, to a storyboard, to a complete animation.

Trainees will also gain experience of broader business functions and administrative tasks, developing proficiency in the relevant Microsoft tools used by the company (SharePoint, Teams, OneNote etc.)

Placements will be supported by a senior mentor who will identify and address any technical training needs, as well as enabling the employee’s broader professional development through a structured internal employability skills programme (targeting key professional attributes such as time-keeping, communication and teamwork).

Our team are all currently working remotely. This means, initially, the trainee will be based at home until it is safe for us to return to our Nottingham office. We will provide the necessary homeworking equipment (e.g. a company laptop), and where needed, use part of the £1,500 on-boarding grant to purchase desks and ergonomic chairs.

Essential skills, experience and qualifications:

What we’re looking for:

Artistic talent and, preferably, digital drawing skills (for example, topography, iconography, asset creation, character design)

Some experience in using the Adobe Suite or its open source alternatives is desirable (this can be afforded through either coursework, work experience, or personal projects)

The ability to communicate ideas accessibly, in an engaging way

A team player who enjoys working with others

A desire to be challenged and open to feedback

A commitment to learning and professional development

What we offer:

Flexible working

A supportive and challenging learning environment

The opportunity to take ownership of work packages, with considerable creative freedom

Access to online training courses on the relevant digital tools/ software

The chance to develop a portfolio of professional work (digital design, animations, and motions graphics)

Experience of broader business functions and the enabling Microsoft suite

Professional mentorship from a senior colleague

A structured employability skills programme to prepare for future recruitment processes

To ensure the longer-term employability of our Kickstart employees, each will be assigned their own mentor (a senior colleague from within the relevant department of the company) who will be responsible for identifying and addressing their technical training needs, specific to their job role.

The mentors will also collaborate to deliver a wider professional development programme. This will be organised around helping Kickstarters to recognise, reflect upon and articulate the key professional skills and experiences they have gained throughout the course of their placements, thus helping them to perform effectively in future recruitment processes.

Beyond this internal support, we will also be tapping into the wider employability services offered by our local representatives (Nottingham City Council and NottinghamJobs).
