Ridewise are a charity that improves the health, safety and wellbeing of individuals through the use of green transport, such as cycling, walking and public transport. We enable people to travel in ways that improves their environments and reduces air pollution. We run community projects surrounding cycling safety, electric vehicles, sharing the road, and learning to cycle. We deliver Sustainable travel events, cycle instruction, journey planning, cycle maintenance and working with business to make green travel choices.

In this role you’ll be vital to the smooth running of our day to day cycling operations.  And, as a central part of the team, we’ll also train you to become a nationally accredited cycle instructor, which means that after training you’ll have all the knowledge you need to become self-employed or to continue to work as an experienced Cycling Instructor.  We’ll also provide first aid training and a DBS check, while you’re working for us. We will also help you to develop the skills you need to become a Dr. Bike through on-the-job training. There will be the option of completing a City & Guilds Level2 bike maintenance course, which would quality you for work as a mechanic.

Through our cycle centres we will offer you the opportunity to practise the community engagement skills which will be vital to your Community Activator award under the Coach Core scheme

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Respond to telephone and email enquiries from the general public, clients, stakeholders and partners
  • Support with the maintenance, checking and allocation of bicycles to the public and businesses
  • Support with the delivery of cycle training, as required
  • Maintain an inventory management system for bicycles, helmets and other associated items
  • Provide customer service and support to the public
  • Maintain computerised and paper based records
  • Keep good records in order to assist in the preparation of information to funding bodies, to meet monthly and quarterly targets
  • Arrange bike loans and all associated paperwork
  • Support clients during training and bike collections
  • Represent the Sustainable Travel Collective when liaising with clients
  • Continued attendance at a college, as part of this Apprenticeship is essential
  • Telephone surveys to follow up on activities delivered
  • Attendance at and development of cycling centres and C4A
  • Work with our head instructor to learn maintenance skills and help maintain our fleet

  • A clean, full driving licence is desirable but not essential
